Working bees Tuesday nights

We are having a regular working bee every Tuesday night from 6.30 to 8.00pm. Come along to help with planting, weeding and to meet others involved in the project. Due to daylight savings end soon our last working bee will be on Tuesday 27th March. We will have weekend working bees over

First working bee for the Jay St garden

We had our first working for the Jay St Garden on 10 December. We had 31 people turn up during the day to help with laying out carpet for weed mat, mulching, planting and building a strawberry bed. It was a great start to the gardens. [slideshow]

The Johnsonville Community Fair provided an opportunity to promote the garden. Charmaine set up a stall and had lots of enquiries.

We have had a lot of support for the development of the community gardens in Newlands/Paparangi. There was mention on ONE EYED FM and articles in the Independent Herald in July (p 3) and November (p 5). Home Harvest provided us with seeds to get seedlings started. The proposal for two community gardens in Newlands/Paparangi was submitted to the Wellington City Council on 8 July 2011. We were told at that stage it would take around 4 months to be approved. The proposal for the Jay Street reserve went to the October meeting of Council, where it was
